So...Y?

Heyo!

So... You may be wondering why Nyghtmare is spelled with a "Y" instead of the actual nightmare?

There are many reasons Y this spelling was chosen over the normal nightmare spelling. But basically...

  • Naming game titles have always been a struggle for devs in terms of uniqueness and familiarity, it would be kinda annoying if you want to search for a niche game you liked on the internet and ended up with medicine or an obscure movie no one watched in a while. So Nyghtmare was considered instead, so the first thing a search engine will spit out is the game, or something VERY similar. Adding gbc or the subtitle: The Ninth King will surely net those search points a bit closer to MY game.
  • there is a character in the game with the starting letters N Y and G, so it's a bit indicative of the story.
  • the onomatopeia for MEOW is NYA in japanese
  • ARYN, the main character, also has N and Y in her name. Circling back to the indication and familiarization of the game title and character names.
  • when it was first conceptualized as a metroidvania, a key factor in the story was Lovecraftian in nature, so I opted for NYarlatothep as a character and concept in the game's identity.

The story also revolves around a living nightmare and the concept of existence. It was also a great idea, to me, to have a single named title and just define the rest with subtitles if I ever planned to expand the series lore in the future.

So thats that I guess. XD Be sure to play the demo of Nyghtmare right now and order your REAL PHYSICAL GAMEBOY CART now at Yastuna Games if you haven't already.

Take care!
